Mr. Bradley opened his first furniture store in downtown Salt Lake City in the early 1960s. He quickly developed a reputation as having one of Salt Lake’s best little furniture stores. He sold high quality, durable furniture at reasonable prices. In the late 1970s Mr. Bradley decided to focus on sleep related products and built a 40,000 square foot Sleep Center in Murray Utah. At the time Bradley’s Sleep Center was the largest Sleep Center west of the Mississippi. Soon Bradley's became known as the premier destination for sleep related products in the Intermountain West. In the late 1970s into the early 1980s Bradley's sold more waterbeds than any other store in the Intermountain West.
Mr. Bradley and his wife had 14 children, many of which learned the lessons of hard work at the store. The daily operations of the Sleep Center soon were taken over by Mr. Bradley’s sons. In the late 1990s one of Mr. Bradley’s sons along with a long time employee Chad Downs took over the business and Mr. Bradley officially retired. They opened up a second location in 1991 in South Salt Lake City, which is the current location of the business today. In 1997 the only Bradley left in the business decided to get out of the retail furniture business and Chad and his wife Lesa became the sole owners.
As the Water Bed era began to slow down and the need for room diminished accordingly, Chad and Lesa shut down the Murray Sleep Center and focused on the South Salt Lake store. They immediately started to diversify from selling just sleep related products and became a full line furniture store. They also began to notice that many of their customers leaned towards a more rustic flare in the furniture, which echoed the nature of the Rocky Mountain Region. It was not long that the little furniture store had grown into one of the region’s biggest seller of unique rustic furniture.
During this period of transaction, Chad and Lesa made a great effort in maintaining their expertise and selection of sleep related products. The store today is a unique combination of one of the country’s best selection of rustic furniture and a well established sleep shop. Many of the beautiful rustic products have elements that have been designed by our staff and are hand crafted by local suppliers. This local connection also allows for the opportunity to custom design furniture to your own specifications and needs. Bradley’s also offers a great selection of upholstered sofas, sofa sleepers, and occasional tables.
Lesa has brought her love and talents for fun accessories and crafts into the business. Bradley's now has a wonderful selection of fun items such as crafts, fun signs, candles, novelty pillows, antler lamps, etc. Many of our customers comment on how fun it is to just come in from time to time and look around at the ever changing display.
We hope you enjoy looking around our website and becoming a little more familiar with us and what it is we represent and sell. Remember that that the items seen here on our site are just a introduction to the many beautiful products that are available here at Bradley's.
